Is Shahrukh Khan a Media made Superstar?
Superstar is a very big term that is used for the phenomenal popularity of an actor and big successful films. Earlier the Superstar tag was given to Dilip Kumar, Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan. They were indeed Superstars... But about today? Nowadays Superstars are made every new weeks. Media currently refer Superstar tag to Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan. We can agree about Salman as he hass proved his ability in various films and has also given successful films with not-so-successful and flop directors/producers. But about Shahrukh Khan? Well he's definitely not a Superstar or we can say that he is projected Superstar by media which he's definitely not. Shahrukh hasn't proved his capabilities of carrying a film on his own shoulders without big banners. In the last four years only Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was a Super Duper Hit. But the credit for making Kuch Kuch Hota Hai a fantabulous hit went to Salman and Kajol. The critics and Trade Pandits even felt that Salman's super charming special appearance was the main reason for making Kuch Kuch Hota Hai a big hit. The audience went berserk when Salman entered in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. His entry received lots of whistles and overshadowed the entire cast. If we look into the last four years graph of Shahrukh Khan, he has given more flops than hit. In the last four years he has starred in so many collosal flops like Dil Se, Duplicate, Baadshah, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Josh, Gaja Gamini , One 2 Ka Four and more recently Ashoka which bombed very badly at the box-office. However in between Mohabbatein was projected as a hit by media but in trade terms it was barely an overflow fare, worked mainly in Bombay, Delhi-U.P. and Overseas. In other territories it couldn't even survive the test at box-office. Media considered Shahrukh as the competitor of Legendary Megastar Amitabh Bachchan. But in reality he's not even 1% of Amitabh Bachchan. Amitabh Bachchan ruled 70s and 80s . Amitabh's films were sold merely on his name and used to housefull for straight 7-8 weeks which is not the case with Shahrukh. Shahrukh can't even give a decent opening without big banners as proved by One 2 Ka Four and Ashoka in recent times. His poor PR tactics tried their best to prove Indian a box-office flop which released along with his Ashoka. But from starting Indian was a winner as it has the best opening for film in the recent times while Ashoka was a flop from starting. Shahrukh uses his dirty and poor tactics to manipulate media against other stars.
