KHANDOM

in late 80s, the two newcomers called Aamir Khan and Salman Khan debuted with blockbusters Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Maine Pyar Kiya. Both become superstars overnight with their very first film. Salman went on to capitalise his record breaking debut success with strings of hits in form of Saajan, Sanam Bewafa, Baaghi and Kurbaan. The year 1992 saw the emergence of a phenomenal called Shah Rukh Khan with a superhit called Deewana. Shahrukh played second lead in the film but he become such a craze with audience that the main hero Rishi Kapoor was sidelined. But in truest sense his break come with a big hit called Baazigar which capitulated him to new dizzy heights and then come Darr, which made him the undisputed Baadshah of bollywood.

Today , the three Khans rules the India's biggest film industry. They are the highest paid actors today. The Khans has captured the hearts of millions teenagers . They are the  undisputed heartthrobs. The Khans not only command speculator fan following in India , but are also immensely popular in abroad especially Shah Rukh Khan. Shah Rukh is almost like a religion there. He has position equal to demi-god there. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is a bigger than Hum Aapke Hain Koun there!. His films command the highest price in Overseas territory. Shahrukh films sold at 7-8 crore per territory, the film of his competitor Salman, Aamir, Anil and Sunny can only fetch 4-5 crores in overseas market.

In the India market , the Khans are almost equally big draw but Salman and Shahrukh had edge over Aamir Khan as Aamir only does one film a year .

A new superstar called Hrithik Roshan has arrived with blockbuster Kaho Na Pyar Hai. The Roshan has been termed competitor to three great Khans but the only future will tell that the Roshan boy is one film wonder like Kumar Gaurav or a superstar in real sense.

The Khans domination

In India, the biggest grossers of all-time and most profitable picture of the year (see box below)  in the last ten years (1990-1999) are delivered by Khans. Even the flops of Khans grosses more than successes of their competitors!. The Khans reign supreme over their contemporaries.

Salman, Shahrukh, Aamir

Though Salman has not been termed as a great actor by critics but he has been improving superbly with each movies. Salman has his own share of hits and flops. Hum Aapke Hain Koun and Maine Pyar Kiya, the two biggest hits of modern era has featured Salman in main lead roles. More than his hits, Salman remains in news more due to his affairs with the hotties of B-town. Currently he is is busy wooing Aishwarya Rai. The Khan enjoys loyal die hard fan following among the masses and classes.

Aamir Khan is selective and does only one film a year and that's too turns a hit. Aamir believes in quality rather than quantity.
